How the 3D Models Are Made

Each 3D model is created using photogrammetry — a technique that builds a precise three-dimensional reconstruction from hundreds of overlapping photographs taken from different angles.

The result captures every surface detail: the depth of individual Ogham strokes, weathering patterns, lichen growth, and the natural texture of the stone. Models are accurate to within millimetres of the original.

This level of detail makes the models invaluable for researchers who need to study inscriptions remotely, and for anyone who wants to experience these stones in a way that a photograph alone cannot convey.

Preservation
Digital models preserve inscriptions that are being slowly eroded by weather and time.
Accessibility
Anyone in the world can explore stones that would otherwise require travel to remote locations.
Research
Scholars can study inscriptions in detail without handling fragile originals.
Education
Schools and universities can include Ogham stones in curricula regardless of geography.
