Provenance

Discovery: Previously recorded as a standing stone leaning considerably to the SE, overlooking the Finn Valley to the S and E (National Monuments Service SMR record: DG079-020----). The ogham inscription was discoved by Niall McConnell after the stone had been re-erected in 2023.

Findspot: Magherareagh (An Machaire Riabhach), Co. Donegal, Ireland (ITM Coordinates: 628279, 894793)

Last recorded location(s): In situ, where it was examined and recorded in 3d using photogrammetry for the OG(H)AM project in 2023.

Condition: Previously recorded as a standing stone leaning considerably to the SE (National Monuments Service SMR record: DG079-020----; Lacey 1983). The ogham inscription was only identifed when the stone was re-erected.

Text field: The surviving ogham inscription runs up on one angle.

Letters: It is difficult to be sure due to weathering but it appears that the inscription was pocked. The strokes are of medium length and evenly spaced but, as the edge of the stone is uneven, it is difficult to pinpoint the track of the uncarver stem-line.
